"Silk, tulle, satin and lace-- mere yards of fabric to some, but to every bride these threads are the heart of a romantic dream-- her wedding dress."
The wedding dress, in all its frothy fabrications, is a gown symbolic not only of the rewards of romance but also of the importance of marriage throughout history.
The significance of "I do", two very simple words, is reflected in the elaborate celebrations that are universally associated with weddings and the exalted position of the bride in every culture. The traditional white wedding gown denotes so powerful an image that it is universally acknowledged as the "proper" bridal hue. Although the white wedding gown has been widely worn for only the last hundred years, it has always been traditional to dress the bride in special vestments. Today, virtually every bride will exchange her nuptial vows attired in a special dress meant to be worn only once, as a hallmark of the significance of the event.
Unlike any other element of fashion, the wedding dress has a unique history. No other dress can match the poetic heritage of the wedding dress or rival the sentimental attachment each bride has to her gown. The enduring beauty of the wedding lies beyond its brilliance of design, sumptuous fabrication, or fineness of construction; the wedding gown`s magic rests in its distinction as a symbol of romance throughout the ages.
In the context of pure fashion, the wedding dress is a representation of the highest standards of the couturier: a hand sewn , made to measure gown designed according to the classic principle that a dress should enhance the true beauty of the wearer`s body. The decision to wear a made to measure wedding gown provides the bride with an opportunity that is rare in the modern world - to indulge in a garment made according to the standards of design, workmanship, and service of the past.
Yet decribing the gown of choices available to the modern woman. A bride`s gown may be frankly feminine, undeniably sophisticated, stark white, splashed with colour, elaborately embellished, or deliberately streamlined. It may feature a bared back or bared legs, have cascades of tulle or lace or be edged with black or trimmed with lush roses. This diversity of choice may seem confusing but it allows each bride the luxury of expressing her personal style through her wedding dress.
Ultimately, each wedding dress takes its place in history as a testament to the enduring history oof the human heart.
